Pelleve Q & A

by Allen A. Flood, MD

How does Pelleve differ from Botox?

Pelleve and Botox are both effective, but Botox uses injections that though gentle, may require a cold compress to relieve swelling or sensitivity after the procedure and you may have some recovery time before you have the natural look you want. With Pelleve there are no injections and no recovery time. Pelleve uses gentle heat and radio frequency to address the problem of wrinkles from the inside out. Botox is also most effective around the upper third of the face, while Pelleve treatments can improve eye, neck and even chest wrinkling.

Why does Pelleve work?

Collagen is a protein that gives your skin a youthful appearance. As we grow older, our bodies produce collagen at a slower rate, and Pelleve turns back the hands of time by helping our bodies produce collagen faster. Pelleve tightening involves a handheld device that Dr. Flood uses to send radio frequency waves through the skin to heat up and stimulate the growth of collagen that we produce internally. Pelleve treatments stimulate collagen production for weeks after the initial procedure.

How long does the Pelleve treatment take?

It depends on the area you’re getting treated. For small areas near your ears or to reduce laugh lines, you could be in and out of the doctor’s chair in 30 minutes. If you’re getting Pelleve to reduce wrinkles over your entire face, you might have to stay in his chair for 45-60 minutes.

Is treatment painful?

Pelleve treatments are painless. Some people say the area feels like they just had a hot stone massage. You might experience some redness because of the heat from the radio frequencies but it will clear quickly. There is no downtime after the procedure, so you can go back to your regular activities when you leave the doctor’s office.
