Laser Hair Removal: Start Now and Be Fuzz Free by Summer

Waxing, shaving, tweezing, and depilatories all get rid of unwanted hair, but not for very long. Hair grows back, making it a constant battle to maintain smooth skin. You can eliminate the hassle of hair removal with laser hair removal.

At Allen A. Flood, MD Dermatology in Washington, DC, we offer laser hair removal to effectively reduce and often eliminate unwanted hair altogether. Start now and you’ll be sporting smooth, enviable skin by summer.

Laser hair removal is so simple

It may sound too good to be true, but when you have unwanted hair, you only need to commit to a series of laser hair removal sessions to make it go away – permanently.

Areas such as your legs, arms, underarms, back, chest, lip line, chin, bikini area, and lower abdomen become forever hair-free and your life becomes a bit more hassle-free, too.

Laser hair removal is an inpatient procedure

Laser hair removal sessions are done in the office with the latest in laser technology. Dr. Flood and his technicians zap the areas to be treated, provide ice packs to soothe the heated skin, if needed, and then send you on your way. You don’t have to worry about downtime or long preps beforehand.

Some patients say the laser treatment feels like rubber bands snapping your skin. If you’ve put off getting laser hair removal treatments because of your concern for the potential discomfort, know that our team does everything possible to make the procedure comfortable and tolerable.

Laser hair removal is effective

With laser hair removal, heat energy penetrates your skin to target growing hair follicles. Built-in cooling mechanisms in the device leave your skin cool and comfortable. The pigment in the hair follicles absorbs the light energy, so unwanted hairs die and your body sheds them over the next couple of weeks.

Because the laser energy penetrates deeply to target unwanted hair at the root, the results are outstanding. Men and women report excellent satisfaction rates following hair removal.

Now is the time so your summer is hair-free

Exactly how many laser hair removal sessions you need depends on your hair density, skin type, and the areas treated. After each treatment, the hair grows back thinner and finer, until it eventually doesn’t grow anymore at all. This is because your hair grows in stages, and the laser treatment works optimally when your hair is in its growth stage. At each treatment session, the laser energy damages hair follicles that are actively growing.

Treatments are usually scheduled about one month apart. This ensures all the hairs in the growth stage are targeted. Most people see results in 6-11 sessions. If you begin treatments now, you’ll have significantly smoother skin by June.

Starting now, when it’s still cold and cloudy in DC, is ideal. After hair removal sessions, you should purposefully avoid the sun as your skin is extra sensitive. Tanning prior to sessions is also ill-advised because tan skin doesn’t react as well to laser hair removal. Winter is the perfect time to do laser hair removal because there’s less chance of inadvertent sun exposure.

Your skin will be a bit sensitive to the sun after a laser session, so if you’re in the sun, you’ll want to wear sunblock and keep your skin covered. That’s harder to do in the warmer months, but much easier when the weather outside isn’t as nice.

If you’re ready to ditch conventional hair-removal methods that are time-consuming and messy, call our office or book a consultation online. We want to help you have the most beautiful skin possible.
